Snowflake Bentley
William "Snowflake" Bentley was a farmer and a scientist who created a way to photograph snowflakes! When people say that every snowflake is different, Snowflake Bentley wanted to prove it. He was the first one able to photograph microscopic pictures by hooking his camera up to a telescope. He took more than 2400 pictures of snowflakes, each one of them different!
Snowflake Bentley would work long hours in his farmhouse in a cold room (so the snow wouldn't melt) and look at snowflakes trying to draw how special they were. It wasn't until he kept working with different ways to photograph that he figured out the best way to show snowflakes to the world. He was also famous for being able to measure how big raindrops are! By taking a pan full of flour and letting rain fall into it, he was able to measure how big the drops were by the flour balls they made! He was a creative scientist who worked very hard to share his ideas with the world. Click on the snowflake to check out his different pictures!
